The town of Longeville-sur-Mer is in the south-western Vendee department and about 10 kilometres east of Jard-sur-Mer. It is a popular destination for those seeking a friendly beach holiday.
Rather curiously given its name, Longeville-sur-Mer is not actually on the coast - but the surrounding commune contains a section of coast with beaches so they are not too far away!
Explore Longeville-sur-Mer
Starting with the beaches at Longeville-sur-Mer, as your visit surely will, you will discover three main sections of beach here called (moving from north-west towards the south-east) Le Bouil, Le Rocher and Les Conches, together providing several kilometres of popular sandy beaches.

Because certain parts of these beaches are only accessible by following forest tracks, it means the more adventurous visitor can easily find quieter sections of beach.
Most of the beaches are backed by extensive forests, which provide varied leisure opportunities such as forest walks, cycling routes and horse-riding.
These forests form part of the extensive Dominial Forest of Longeville-sur-Mer, 16 kilometres long and planted in the 19th century to stabilise the sand dunes.
Note: from Les Conches surfers can reach a surfing area called 'Bud-Bud', reputed as being one of the best surfing places on the Vendée coast.
The town of Longeville-sur-Mer
Of course, don't forget to visit the town of Longeville-sur-Mer as well as the beaches!
During the summer it is a fun and lively town with a friendly atmosphere, centred around its church and market square (the Place de la Liberté) - although Longeville-sur-Mer is very much quieter outside the summer season.
Don't forget to sample the shellfish, fruit and vegetables in the market, among the freshest we have tasted in France and produced in the local area.

Attractions nearby
To the south-east of Longeville-sur-Mer you reach the first parts of the extensive marshy region that becomes the Marais Poitevin, and is a popular place with nature lovers - it is possible to hire a small boat to explore the quiet canals.
A short distance north of the town the villages of Saint-Hilaire-la-Foret and Le Bernard make possible bases for walks in the surrounding countryside.
